Hi, I am JAN
I love executing projects and helping startups grow.
Young entrepreneur and dreamer currently on my life's mission in China. I grew up in a small village in the south of the Czech Republic with a strong desire to explore the world and challenge myself. I studied Mechatronics in high school, have a BA in Economics and Finance and am now pursuing an MSc in Management from the Peking University HSBC Business School.
I used to work for Rocket Internet, built an online business during my last year of BA and found a passion in connecting and educating people through communities like Startup Grind. I am a healthy lifestyle geek that likes reading and helping others to achieve their goals. Keep learning and grinding!
Business development, China, startups & venture capital, fundraising, operations management, e-commerce, and community management.
"There’s no other way to find out whether or not you will be successful other than just doing it."
- Richard Branson -
For the last couple of years I have been working on many interesting projects with people from all over the world. I gained priceless cross-cultural experience and managed to build strong network of valuable connections across industries.
Asian modern fashion
I am a VP of Business Development, responsible for fundraising, new market(s) research and strategy formulation & implementation.
Whoolala is the international launchpad for the next Asian fashion designer.
Our business is predicated on a “simple” problem that few startups/companies have yet tried to address. Western clothes DON'T fit Asians. We connect independent Asian brands (and their unique products) with Asian shoppers globally to make modern Asian fashion accessible!
IoT Holding (IOTH)
We help build next IoT Superstars
I am responsible for business development & partnerships in Asia.
IOTH is seeking the best of the best. We are looking for talented startup entrepreneurs and teams from CEE to help them succeed both locally and globally. We focus on IoT, Smart Home, and FinTech startups. Not only will we provide early stage finances to cover development costs, but we are also involved in hands-on operations, product and business strategy, and we help with marketing, go-to-market plans and contacts. We love a lean approach and will help you grow fast.
Global entrepreneur community
I am a Co-Director building an active startup community in Shenzhen - one of the most vibrant cities in Asia - together with successful founders, innovators and educators who are willing to share their experience with local entrepreneurs.
Startup Grind is the largest independent startup community, actively educating, inspiring, and connecting 215,000 founders in over 175 cities. We nurture startup ecosystems in 80 countries through events, media, and partnerships with organizations like Google for Entrepreneurs.
E-commerce store with consumer electronics
I co-founded and helped to grow this originally "student project" from zero to a stable business with ~$50k monthly revenue at its peak. I was in charge of sourcing the products in China and establishing long-lasting relationships with suppliers, business development, strategic partnerships and customer service. The company serves primarily Czech and Slovak markets and deals with the after-sales service "in-house".
Online takeaway food ordering marketplace
The foodpanda group is the leading online food delivery marketplace in emerging markets. I was a member of the Prague-based team that opened and operated two markets - the Czech Republic and Slovakia. I did everything from sales, product management and customer service. We managed to create an excellent company culture that enhanced overall motivation and team collaboration. Our team was consistently at the top of the productivity charts within the whole foodpanda group.
New wave of social entrepreneurs
I was a Campus Director at Peking University HSBC Business School. We organized the very first Hult Prize@ event at our university. I raised ~$12k sponsorship for this event/competition, managed team of three people and recruited judges from the fields of venture capital, entrepreneurship and academic research.
The Hult Prize Foundation is a start-up accelerator for budding young social entrepreneurs emerging from the world’s universities. Winners receive $1 million in seed capital, as well as mentorship and advice from the international business community.
Charles University in Prague
Institute of Economic Studies
Working together with Tom Fencl CFA on a new applied Private Equity class for the English-language Master’s degree program. I initiated the process of adding this class to the official syllabus, helped to formulate the overall concept of the class and provided Mr. Fencl with additional administrative support such as teaching materials preparation. The class received very high student and faculty rating.
Peking University in Shenzhen
Peking University HSBC Business School
I Helped Kevin Chastagner with Entrepreneurship class. This course provides an overview of the entrepreneur and opportunity nexus, ranging from opportunity recognition and evaluation to resource acquisitions. I managed guest lectures, which meant to find and invite successful entrepreneurs to share their experience with students.
I have been following Gary Vaynerchuk for a quite some time already and love the stuff he puts out. Pure entrepreneurship. I hope you will enjoy too!
Startups & Venture Capital
I have been an active member of various startup ecosystems around the world (the Czech Republic, China, Hong Kong, etc.) for many years. For now, I settled in Shenzhen (rapidly developing city in southern China), where I help to build and promote local startup community (with a focus on further internationalization). The vision is to create a bridge between Chinese/Asian and Western entrepreneurial hubs.
What I have to offer:
I would like to work with startups and companies with global ambitions seeking either short-term or long-term co-operation with highly motivated and goal-oriented individual with an entrepreneurial spirit. Interested? Would you like to make an introduction? Let me know!
